LOW-MAINTENANCE FOLIAGE PLANTS FOR LIMITED INDOOR SPACE

Houseplants bring the beauty of nature inside your home, regardless of where you live. They brighten up your space, adding an earthy, calming aura that complements any home decor. Houseplants also purify the air in your home and, according to researchers at PAU, Ludhiana these  can even improve your health. There are many different kinds of houseplants, all of which vary in size and maintenance requirements. If you reside in a compact living space, such as a dorm room or small apartment, you'll probably want houseplants that don't consume precious living space. It might be wise to consider a low-maintenance houseplant, as well, if you don't care to constantly attend to the demands of a houseplant. The foliage plants featured below are ideal for limited indoor spaces and don't require regular maintenance.

Gardening pictureJade Plant
The jade plant (Crassula ovata) is a visually appealing houseplant that features thick, rounded leaves. This jade-colored houseplant grows very slowly and has a very long lifespan (around 20 years or more). It thrives in sunny environments at normal household temperatures and does not require much water or maintenance. One important aspect of caring for a jade plant is keeping dust off its leaves to prevent them from suffocating. This succulent houseplant looks great in a pot and can easily accompany other houseplants. It doesn't take up much space, either, so you can easily add it alongside your home decor.

ImageMoth Orchid
Although many orchid varieties are difficult to care for, the moth orchid (Phalaenopsis equestris) is not. In fact, it's perfect for beginners and grows best indoors. The moth orchid is known for its wide, fleshy leaves and silvery, aerial roots that appear at the base of its nearly invisible stems. It has long, arching flower stalks that produce several large, moth-like flowers in beautiful shades of purple, pink, orange, yellow, and white. The moth orchid prefers low to medium light and warm temperatures. It grows slowly and requires repotting every one or two years, so only minimal maintenance is required. Although the moth orchid only blooms once per year, you can enjoy its gorgeous blooms for months.

Snake Plant
ImageIf you want a compact houseplant that is extremely easy to care for, the snake plant (Sansevieria trifasciata) is a fantastic option. Known for its variegated leaves with white or yellow edges, this indoor house plant has small white flowers that rarely bloom. Its stiff leaves grow upright, creating an interesting design feature in your space. The snake plant does well in normal room temperatures and nearly any lighting condition. It does prefer somewhat dry air and make sure to keep its soil dry, as well.

ImageHeart-Leaf Philodendron

The heart-leaf philodendron looks great trailing along mantels or climbing up bookshelves, adding a cozy aura to any space. It features perky, dark green leaves that form a heart shape where they connect to the stems. Aside from its charming appearance, this trailing houseplant is one of the easiest to care for. It does well in any lighting -preferably indirect sunlight- and does not require constant watering. In fact, its soil should be completely dry before watering. This low-maintenance houseplant also grows well in standard room temperatures.

Peace Lily
ImageIf you tend to keep your blinds closed or don't have many windows, the peace lily (Spathiphyllum wallisii) is perfect for your space. This household plant is very easy to grow and isn't picky about temperatures. Normal household temperatures up to 85 degrees are sufficient for the peace lily. It does prefer low humidity and low lighting, however, so don't expose it to full sunlight. The peace lily is also very beautiful, featuring dark leaves and curving, white blooms. It looks very clean and simple, adding a touch of natural elegance to any small space.
